Laceration In The Lower Medial Eyelid, Close to Punktum (2018)

The series grew out of a severe injury to my left eye that significantly impaired my sight.

The work took me on a journey through my own understanding of the world as I see it, from the inside out. Through the photographs I ask what sight is as a mechanism of perception, and what photography is as a tool for looking into the world.

My damaged sight became an instrument, and the eye became the medium itself — an organic apparatus on which the image is inscribed. The blur and the gaps are not what the injury left behind; they are what drives the work, and imagination completes them.
